May 2017

I consider everyone at TBS a hero; from those who serve on, or maybe even chair, a committee to those who pay their dues in a timely fashion.   These people keep our kehillah alive and well. A few months ago at a monthly Board of Trustees meeting, I came up with a tongue-in-cheek “Hero Award”; given to the trustee who went above-and-beyond in the prior month. It’s a way for me to kick off the meeting with some fun and hopefully, excitement.

I thought I’d share with the congregation our heroes so far. January’s hero was Ed Kane, who helped so much with the boiler when it decided to stop working on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. He located the manufacturer (not our normal vendor) and they were able to get us up and running within 12 hours.

February’s hero was Jason Lieberman; Jason, who has a hectic work schedule, stepped up to the plate and is helping co-chair the membership committee. Jason and his wife Nurit do so much for the Young Families already, I was overwhelmed when Jason agreed to an even greater role at the Temple.

March’s hero award was given to Mark Granoff, our webmaster. After the recent bomb scare at MWJDS, we were contacted by the FBI to send them our server logs which indicated which IP addresses were touching our servers. The FBI assumed the perpetrator may have been looking at the target servers to get their phone numbers. Within 3 days, a high-level figure was arrested for the crimes. YOU put 2 and 2 together!

The above heroes, all very different, show how TBS works and comes together with different skill sets. I’m very proud to be part of our Temple.

And speaking about the Board of Trustees, you may have seen the letter about the new slate of trustees to be voted on at the June congregational meeting for terms starting July 1st.

Unfortunately, this means that some trustees have terms that are expiring and are stepping down. I’d like to thank Lisa Cohen, Sharone Greene, Stacy Chansky and Paul Kaufman for their years on the board and hope to see them stay involved in other aspects of our Temple.

I’d like to close by asking you to please make an effort to attend a celebration/farewell luncheon for Fredda Hamilton on 5/21 at noon. Talk about heroes! Fredda was an instrumental force in our Religious School for so many years; we couldn’t have made it where we are today without her! Todah Rabbah!
