Early Friday Night Services

Posted on December 15, 2016

Friday nights are a time to spend with family and friends while enjoying a relaxing Shabbat dinner. It is also a time to come together as a Community and share the Shabbat experience. The question is, how do we accomplish both?

The answer is easy. Beginning on Friday night, December 23rd, we will have an Early Shabbat Service at 6:00 pm.  We can come together and share Shabbat and then go home to our Shabbat dinners.  We will finish our service by 6:45 pm.  It is early enough for all family members!

This is a pilot program which will be on the last two, or three, Friday nights of the month, through June 30th.

The Torah is called a “tree of life” (Proverbs 3:18)

Posted on December 15, 2016

The Torah is called a “tree of life” (Proverbs 3:18).  Like the Torah, trees support a healthy and sustainable environment in which life flourishes. Israel is one of only two countries in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees, but In the wake of the worst fires in Israel’s history, at least 700 homes have been damaged, 560 completely lost, and 10,000 acres of forest have been destroyed.

An important part of our Religious School curriculum here at Temple Beth Sholom involves teaching our students that they are the “Guardians of the Earth.”
